Unethical pricing

Recently use UBER to and from NY La Guardia Airport from my home in Riverdale, NY. The fare was $17.00 higher on the return trip than going to the airport. When I complained to UBEr, I was told that 'surge pricing" applied to my return trip. Surge pricing is in effect during periods of high demand, high or heavy traffic,or bad weather. None of these conditions applied. In fact, we asked the driver upon pick up if it was particularly busy, and he confirmed clearly, it was not; in fact he said it was extremely LIGHT. There was absolutely no traffic on the trip from the airport to my home. Conversely, on the trip TO the airport three days earlier, when my fare was $17.00 LOWER, the driver said traffic was extremely heavy and she took an alternate route to save time. I firmly belive UBER also uses their "SURGE PRICING" as a means to increase revenue during normally quiet times, forcing customers to pay higher fares in order to make up for fewer rides requested. I find this very disturbing and unethical. Finally, in UBER's response to my complaint, I was told that the fare was displayed before I accepted the ride. And while this is true, I needed a ride home and price gouging is improper and unethical in any situation. I am looking into other ride APPS, and will avoid UBER in the future.

UBER FLAT RATE RIDE PASS SCAM FRAUD UBER IS UNETHICAL

WE BOUGHT 40 RIDE FLATE RATE PACKAGES GOOD FOR 28 DAYS. THE RIDES WERE TO EXPIRE ON MIDNIGHT MAY 6, 2017. At 8pm UBER DELETED ALL THREE OF OUR REMAINING RIDES. THEY LEFT US STRANDED AND DISHONORED THE FLAT RATE PACKAGE. TOWARDS THE LAST WEEK OF THE FLAT RATE PACKAGE THEY CHANGED IT TO A RIDE PASS. BOTTOMLINE UBER OWES US 3 RIDES AS WE PAID FOR 40 RIDES AND ONLY RECEIVED 37 RIDES.

Uber needs its navigation redesigned badly. I agree that it is too dangerous for drivers and passengers alike.

Uber also needs to have an app built in monitoring the speed of their drivers and have the app send feedback back to Uber if the drivers are speeding. It has been a real problem especially with younger make drivers who want to impress the girl passengers for some reason.

On March 24, 2017 I requested a ride a driver accepted the trip, the app showed that i had been picked up and that we were on our trip. The issue with this was I WAS NEVER PICKED UP!!! I then contacted the driver whom did not respond but immediately cancelled the trip. I waited a few minutes requested another ride the same driver accepted and cancelled the ride again. THIS IS STRIKE TWO. But once more i requested a ride and finally was picked up. I check my bank statement and noticed that over $200 had been charged and it was from Uber! I contacted uber several times only to be told that my fares were adjusted to compensate my driver for the services provided. NOT ONLY DID I NOT TAKE THE TRIP BUT THE DRIVER HERSELF CANCELLED THE TRIP. THEY ARE ACTING AS IF I WILL NOT RECEIVE MY MONEY BACK!!! BUT I REFUSE TO LOSE $253.94 FOR A SERVICE THAT WAS NOT PROVIDED! I USE UBER ON A CONSTANT BASIS THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE HAD ANY KIND OF ISSUE WITH UBER!!! BUT THIS ONE MISTAKE IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!

Hello, My name is Keith Valley. I live in Dallas but recently took a trip to San Diego. I requested an Uber after getting off the plane. An Uber matching the description pulled up and opened his door so I got in. A few miles down the road he discovered he had the wrong passenger. Instead of continuing to my destination, he turned around and took me back to the airport. All the while, my actual assigned driver was threatening to leave. When we got back to the airport, in a hurry he handed me my suitcase and I ran to meet my other driver, not realizing my backpack was still in the first car. When I got to my hotel, I realized my backpack was not with me. The driver said "just call Uber and they'll bring it to you." I soon realized Uber does not have a phone number you can call, so I had to try to communicate my issue through messaging on the app. The major problem was, since the first driver was not supposed to pick me up, there is no record of me being in his car. There is also no way for to tell them who he was. I was told they are supposed to take left items to the Uber office. I checked the office 3 different times during my vacation and it was never there. I explained to them the contents of that bag were a computer, medication, ID card, social security card, a checkbook, and other critical items. The people I spoke with showed no concern and said leave us your phone number and we'll call you if it turns up. When I asked if we could try to figure out who the other driver was, the answer was an absolute no. I told them I could say exactly where he was at an exact time and describe him and his vehicle. They still wouldn't do it. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told definitely not, because they would give me the same answer. In the end, they blamed me and basically said it was not their problem. The most concerning thing I learned through this is Uber takes no responsibility for their drivers. The comment to me was "they're not technically employees, they just use our app." That's something everyone should be aware of when using Uber. The San Diego police was just as disinterested when I reported the bag stolen. Hopefully you can get this story out there so people will be sure to use caution when using Uber. Thank you so much!

What you say about no record for the first driver is not true. I drive for Uber so I know how it works.

As soon as the driver starts the trip--he hits the "Start Trip" button on his phone. This app records the start time, location, and destination for the trip. You can have Uber find out who the driver was that picked you up by mistake. The app will shoe the pick-up point, the drop-off point, miles traveled, who the driver and car was, etc.

In most major cities there is something called an Uber Green Light office that is staffed 7 days a week--and you can call them or e-mail them. Contact them and they will be able to provide you with the information you are looking for.

FYI Uber side jobs

FYI check uber drivers insurance if you hire them privately. Many uber drivers will take side jobs posting on various sites hire for airport rides etc. Passenger beware uber insurance does not cover accidents injuries or loss if you hire a driver privately for insurance coverage you must go through the app. Just about all auto insurance companies have exclusions on coverage if you use your car for hire, paid private transportation. We learned this the hard way when our uber driver reassured us that she was covered no matter what, no so she rear ended a car on the freeway airbags deployed, whiplash, glass scratches, a mess. Low and behold no insurance coverage for her damages, we have health insurance but our insurance company now is going after the driver. BUYER/PASSENGER BEWARE!!!

Dont ever drive for uber

Recently i went on line and was looking for a job. Ran across the uber drive and guess what . They are renting leasing me a car for 180.00 per week and take it out of my pay too. All i have to do is go online submit my application they do a background check. The bottom line is 800.00 a month for the car and you need commercial ride share insurance. They tell you to lie to the insurance company. Thats only a felony maybe if you have a clam . And 350.00 a month for insurance. They keep the car at the end of the lease . It's been resolved. I've contacted them, and they have stopped sending me all those txt messages and emails.

Took time.

I've also contacted other companies of this type, and they all say the same. It's too old. Doesn't matter if I have it certified. Too bad.

I think a lot of people would like a 6-door limo ride at the same cost. It doesn't take much more gas than a standard Deville.

Uber is missing out.

What about a 1955 Chevy?
